Building Inspectorate
What do they do?
The Building Inspectorate unit is responsible for development planning and control within the region. The unit ensures that the construction of buildings are as per the approved building plan and complies with standards and regulations.
Key Roles/Functions include:
Code Compliance: Building inspectors ensure that construction projects adhere to established building codes, zoning regulations, and safety standards. This involves reviewing plans, inspecting construction sites, and verifying that work meets regulatory requirements.
Inspections: Building inspectors conduct on-site inspections at various stages of construction to assess compliance with codes and standards. This may include foundation inspections, framing inspections, electrical and plumbing inspections, and final inspections before a certificate of occupancy is issued.
Occupancy Certificates: Once construction is complete and deemed in compliance, the building inspectorate issues occupancy certificates. These documents indicate that a building is safe for occupancy and meets all relevant regulations.
Enforcement: Building inspectors have the authority to enforce compliance with building codes. If violations are identified, they may issue warnings, stop-work orders, or require corrective actions to bring the project into compliance.
